Spice of the Month Take & Make: Ras el Hanout

Spice of the Month Take & Make: Ras el Hanout In-Person

This month, explore the enchanting flavors of Ras el Hanout, a fragrant spice blend hailing from North Africa. Translating to "head of the shop," this blend represents the finest spices a merchant has to offer, often including cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and cumin. Known for its bold and complex profile, Ras el Hanout is a staple in Moroccan cuisine, adding depth to tagines, roasted vegetables, and more. Your kit includes a sample of this exquisite blend, recipes to get you started, and recommended reads to immerse yourself in the culinary traditions of North Africa.

About the Program

The Spice of the Month is a year-long journey through global flavors, where each month features a different spice, blend, or herb. Library patrons can sign up to receive a free “take-and-make” kit, including:

  • A small packet of the featured spice (enough for two recipes).
  • Simple recipe cards to inspire your cooking.
  • A brief history and cultural context of the spice.
  • Recommended books for further exploration.

Registration is preferred. Kits will be available while supplies last, registration secures a kit for you.
