Climate Conversations - Wild Fires In-Person
September's Climate Conversation is about Wildfires.
Forests cover 24.5 million acres across Colorado – more than a third of the state’s land area – and they provide numerous benefits for both nature and people. They filter our air and our water, they provide wildlife habitat, and they provide us with opportunities for recreation and recharge. But our forests are facing challenges related to forest health, climate change, and wildfire. While we know that fire is a natural part of our forests and is important in maintaining forest health, the scale and intensity of wildfire often outpaces our ability to manage fire in a way that protects the values we care about.
Rob Addington is the Forest Program Director with The Nature Conservancy’s Colorado Chapter, and he will discuss approaches to forest and fire management to improve forest health and promote resilience to climate change, including the roles that policy, science, and collaboration all play in tackling the challenges we face related to climate change.
The Colorado Department of Revenue will discuss insurance issues for the second part of the discussion on wildland fires.
Climate Conversations at the LINC Library Innovation Center are hosted by the Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL) Greeley chapter. CCL is a non-partisan organization that promotes solutions to the current climate crises. The goal is to provide information on various topics surrounding climate issues, to show many sides of the discussion and to get citizens thinking about solutions and obtain a better understanding of the situation. Free and open to the public. Registration is preferred.
