Colorado People & Places: Erie's Railroad, the Denver and Boulder Valley

Colorado People & Places: Erie's Railroad, the Denver and Boulder Valley In-Person

Bob Rummer will tell the story of Erie's railroad history, with railroad barons and miner's strikes, floods and freight, tourists and streamliners. The tracks are overgrown, and the street crossings are paved over, but Erie's rails were once the pride of the State. By accessing the northern Colorado coalfield, the Denver & Boulder Valley RR laid the foundation for dramatic growth in Denver and the development of Erie. When the D&BVRR steamed into Erie on January 18, 1871 it was the first branch line constructed in the state. Although the trains have been gone for 20 years we can still see their legacy in our town.

Presented by Bob Rummer, co-owner of Colorado Railbike Adventures (www.gorailbike.com). He has done extensive archival research on the D&BVRR, and he is developing an historic interpretation of the railroad. He is a member of the Erie Historical Society with a keen interest in helping people connect to the historic identity of our town.
