November 19 - Climate and economic growth.
This talk will provide an introduction to climate economics. We will cover four main topics. First, we will begin with the principles of microeconomics and how they inform our understanding of how consumers and companies make choices. Second, we will discuss environmental externalities or the conditions when markets break down and fail to capture societal costs like pollution damages. Third, we will talk about how climate change stems from markets failing to address externalities and why a global climate solution has failed to emerge. Finally, we will discuss how economists are working to estimate the costs of climate change and how those estimates can be used.
