Discover the night: A stargazing event

Discover the night: A stargazing event In-Person

Join the Erie Library Community and Standley Lake Stargazing for a star party! This indoor and outdoor event welcomes stargazers of all ages and experience levels—whether you're a seasoned astronomer or just curious.

We'll start with an introduction to the night sky, no prior knowledge necessary. Together we'll learn how the sky moves throughout the night, how to find markers like the Big Dipper and Little Dipper, the North Star, and some of the bright constellations that can be seen even near the city lights. We'll also learn about the planets and how to find them. Once outside at the telescope, you will be shown a host of deep-sky objects including the Hercules Cluster, the Ring Nebula, the Lagoon Nebula, the Swan Nebula, the Wild Duck Cluster and the Andromeda Galaxy. We will have telescopes available for public viewing, and you're welcome to bring your own telescope.
